Letitia Court runs north-south from the 100 block of Market Street to the 100 block of Chestnut Street, though originally it only ran as far south as Black Horse Alley. It was named for Letitia Penn, the daughter of the founder of the colony, because she used to own most or all of the land on which Letitia Court was later established. Today only one of the 18th century houses of Letitia Court still exists, and that because it was once believed to have been where William Penn had once lived (the house actually postdates his visits to Pennsylvania). In 1883, because of this fame, the house was moved to Fairmount Park, where it still stands. An in-situ photograph of c.1880 and another of the house in the park from the late 20th century are reproduced in Kenneth Finkel's Philadelphia: Then And Now, pp. 106-107. It is not yet certain which of the people below, if any, was living in that house in 1785, but this book gives the 1880 address as #8 Letitia Court. This would have been under the modern numbering system for Philadelphia, established in 1857-58, but it does give a clue which may help track the history of that property.
